This is the delivery of my miniature Horse Melody AMHA-AMHR. It was a text book delivery.
I have also made the pictures bigger for better viewing.
The Mare's water has broken and the white bubble will soon appear
The foal's front feet appear
(ABOVE)More of the head and and feet and the foal is still in the amniotic sac.
ABOVE)Just above the feet you can see the foals nose.
(ABOVE)Now the foal is almost to the hips
(ABOVE)The mare pushes the foal's shoulder through the pelvis
(ABOVE)As the foal is delivered, its body will angle
down towards the mare's hocks. As you can see the feet are still inside the mare.
ABOVE)The mare is giving another good push. You can see that the foal's eye is open
(ABOVE)Melody looks in excitment at her new born foal.
The umbilical cord is still attached. Contains blood that is benefical to the foal.
The Umbilical cord should break on it own.
(ABOVE)The Amniotic sac has been broken and  peeled back to allow the foal to begin breathing.
(ABOVE)The most difficult part of the birth is now over.
As soon as the foal is born the mare will stop pushing.
The nostrils have been cleared and the foal is breathing.
The foal will try to suck on the mares neck and the front legs and even the belly and back legs of the mare, but sooner or later they find the right spot.
Melody welcomes her new baby girl by nickering to her.
Southern Hearts Always and Forever
The foal knows she was just sucking good milk in this area., but has seemed to have missed the location.
